Replace Two U.S. 52 Bridges over Toms Creek

Surry County, NC

This project includes the replacement of two U.S. 52 bridges (Surry County Bridge Nos. 122 and 126) over Toms Creek approximately 1.75 miles northwest of downtown Pilot Mountain, NC.  An on-site detour using a temporary bridge was selected because the center median is wide enough to accommodate the bridge.  Northbound traffic will be routed onto the detour bridge while the new northbound bridge (No. 122) is built.  Southbound traffic will be routed onto the detour bridge while the new southbound bridge (No. 126) is built. The detour bridge will be removed after both new bridges are complete.

Rice provided the environmental analysis to complete the project’s environmental document, a Categorical Exclusion (CE) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), community studies, public involvement and integrated mobility study for this project.  Rice professionals also provided the field data collection, and cartography.
