This project includes the replacement of the 20th Street bridge (Carteret Co. Bridge No. 34) over Little Contentnea Creek in Morehead City, NC. An offsite detour was selected for the project using nearby Bridges and Barbour Streets, and Mayberry Loop Road.  Special consideration was given to bike and ped concerns due to the adjacent Calico Creek Boardwalk, south adjacent historic Bay View Cemetery, and former encampment area for the Confederate Army on the banks of Calico Creek.  

Rice provided the environmental analysis to complete the project’s environmental document, a Categorical Exclusion (CE) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  Rice also prepared, community studies, public involvement materials, an integrated mobility study and provided the field data collection, GIS and cartography.  The project has been suspended until 2027 due to project funding.  Rice will resume its services at that time.
