Replace NC 55 Bridge over Trent Creek
Merritt, NC
This project includes the replacement of the NC 55 bridge (Pamlico Co. Bridge No. 43) over Trent Creek in Merritt, Pamlico County, NC. Due to the construction method and area constraints, and off-site detour was selected for the project using nearby Spruill and N. Trent Roads. The offsite detour was included in the project study area for the sake that it too included improvements that needed to be designed and constructed to facilitate cars, trucks and agricultural vehicles. Special coordination was carried out with local farmers to assure that project improvements could bear the weight, height and width requirements for agricultural vehicles.
Rice provided the environmental analysis to complete the project’s environmental document, a Categorical Exclusion (CE) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), community studies, public involvement and integrated mobility study for this project. Rice professionals also provided the field data collection, and cartography.
