This project includes the replacement of the Ballard’s Crossroads Road bridge (Pitt Co. Bridge No. 131) over Little Contentnea Creek in an unincorporated area of Pitt County that is roughly equidistant between Farmville and Greenville, NC. An offsite detour was selected for the project using nearby Askew, Bruce Strickland and Bell Arthur Roads.  Consideration was given to agricultural operations in the area due to Ballard’s Crossroads Road being a north south route used for agricultural vehicle travel.

Rice provided the environmental analysis to complete the project’s environmental document, a Categorical Exclusion (CE) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  Rice also prepared, community studies, public involvement, an integrated mobility study and provided the field data collection, GIS and cartography.
